The Table of Nations

These are the family records of Deucalion’s sons: Hellen, Amphictyon, and Orestheus. They also had sons after the flood.

Amphictyon’s sons: Macedon, Magnes, Thessalus, Graecus, Lokrus, and Phokos. 3 Macedon’s sons: Pierus and Emathion. 4 And Graecus’s sons: Italus and Latinus.

From these descendants, the peoples of the northern coasts and the distant islands spread out into their lands according to their clans in their nations, each with its own language.

Orestheus’s sons: Belus, Agenor, Aegyptus, and Danaus. 7 Belus’s sons: Phoenix and Cilix.

Orestheus fathered Minos, who began to be powerful in the land. 9 He was a powerful conqueror in the sight of the Lord. That is why it is said: Like Minos, a powerful conqueror in the sight of the Lord. 10 His kingdom started with Knossos and Phaistos and Gortyn in the land of Crete. 11 From that land he went to the islands and built Rhodes and Cythera and the great labyrinth.

Aegyptus fathered the people of the Nile, the Thebans, and the Memphites. 14 Danaus fathered the Argives and those who fled across the sea. 15 Agenor fathered Sidon his firstborn and Phoenix, 16 as well as the Tyrians and the Kadmeians of the East. 18 Afterward the foreign clans scattered. 19 Their border went from Sidon toward the south as far as the shores of Libya.

These are Orestheus’s sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.

And Hellen, the eldest of the sons, also had sons. Hellen was the father of all the tribes of the Hellenes. 22 Hellen’s sons were Aeolus, Dorus, and Xuthus.

Aeolus’s sons: Sisyphus, Athamas, Cretheus, and Salmoneus. 24 Xuthus fathered Ion and Achaios. 25 Achaios had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

These are Hellen’s sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.

These are the clans of Deucalion’s sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.
