Part 1

The Tower of Babel

11 The whole earth had the same language and vocabulary. 2 As people migrated from the East, they found a valley in the land of Lydia and settled there. 3 They said to each other: Come, let us make oven-fired bricks. They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar. 4 And they said: Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered throughout the earth.

5 Then the Creator came down to look over the city and the tower that the humans were building. 6 The Creator said: If they have begun to do this as one people all having the same language, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down there and confuse their language so that they will not understand one another’s speech. 8 So from there the Creator scattered them throughout the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore it is called Babel, for there the Creator confused the language of the whole earth, and from there the Creator scattered them throughout the earth.

From Hellen to Inach

Hellen lived 100 years and fathered Aeolus two years after the flood. 11 After he fathered Aeolus, Hellen lived 500 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 12 Aeolus lived 35 years and fathered Sisyphus. 13 After he fathered Sisyphus, Aeolus lived 403 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 14 Sisyphus lived 30 years and fathered Halmus. 15 After he fathered Halmus, Sisyphus lived 403 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 16 Halmus lived 34 years and fathered Chryses. 17 After he fathered Chryses, Halmus lived 430 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 18 Chryses lived 30 years and fathered Minyas. 19 After he fathered Minyas, Chryses lived 209 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 20 Minyas lived 32 years and fathered Orchomenus. 21 After he fathered Orchomenus, Minyas lived 207 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 22 Orchomenus lived 30 years and fathered Iasus. 23 After he fathered Iasus, Orchomenus lived 200 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 24 Iasus lived 29 years and fathered Agenor. 25 After he fathered Agenor, Iasus lived 119 years and fathered other sons and daughters. 26 Agenor lived 70 years and fathered Inach, Belus, and Phoenix.

27 These are the family records of Agenor. Agenor fathered Inach, Belus, and Phoenix, and Phoenix fathered Lykas. 28 Phoenix died in his native land, in Ur of the East, during his father Agenor’s lifetime. 29 Inach and Belus took wives: Inach’s wife was named Arga, and Belus’s wife was named Milcah. She was the daughter of Phoenix, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. 30 Arga was unable to conceive; she did not have a child.

31 Agenor took his son Inach, his grandson Lykas, and his daughter-in-law Arga, his son Inach’s wife, and they set out together from Ur of the East to go to the land of the Pelasgians. But when they came to the city of Haran, they settled there. 32 Agenor lived 205 years and died in Haran.
